2020 Expo Wrap Up

Despite the challenges of organising and running a model competition and expo during COVID 19 this years event was without doubt a great success.  We thank the Army Museum for their patience and assistance in getting it off the ground and compliant with the current regulations.

Whilst entry numbers were somewhat lower than last year, 125 models submitted by 26 modellers, the general consensus was that the quality of work displayed was outstanding and equal to that seen in major competitions both here and abroad.

A special thanks to the Mackay and Rockhampton modelling groups who not only contributed many of the models on display but took away a good many well deserved awards as well.  Their willingness to travel, camaraderie and banter as usual are greatly appreciated.

A special thanks to Bill Thurly for judging and the NQSM members who assisted in the lead up and on the day.

Finally a big thank you to our sponsors , especially The RC Shop. If you are able in the coming year to support the businesses listed on the right than please do!

As a result of the expo we were able to donate $605 to each of our beneficiaries , The Kissing Point Military Foundation and Hounds4Healing.  Hoping that things may be a bit easier next year!

Photos of the entries are here.

2020 NQSM Expo Date Claimer

North Queensland Scale Modellers are pleased to announce that their sixth annual scale model expo and competition is (assuming no major changes in the COVID 19 regulations) scheduled to take place over the Queens birthday long weekend  on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th of October 2020, at the Army Museum North Queensland.

Full details of Timetable and the updated competition rules and judging guidelines will be provided in due course. There will be some changes necessary  to comply with COVID 19 regulations .

Mark you calendars and get working on your entries.

Update 16 Aug 20

As at this time the Army Museum NQ has still not opened to the public and it remains uncertain when it will open.  Should the museum remain closed we are planning a back up competition that would be for NQSM members and invitees from Mackay and Rockhampton modelling groups.  In this case we would be unable to hold a display that is open to the public for viewing.  A final decision will be made at our group meeting on 6 Sept.  Of course even the back up plan could fall through if there is a change in the Covid-19 situation and reintroduction of tighter restrictions on private gatherings.

Competition rules and categories can be viewed here .
